John Ruskin one of England’s formidable art
critics, writer and philosopher was a regular visitor to Thurland. He was best known for his monumental studies of architecture. The extensive and lavish upgrade on the castle by Lee’s family during the Industrial Revolution clearly indicates the art critic’s influences on them.


All the residences include a complete Interior Design Service. This is reflected in natural stone/wood floors, carpets, draperies, with Master Bedrooms having complete treatments. Our interior Designer, Anne Holmes, has designed individual storyboards incorporating sumptuous fabrics to reflect the style and eclectic lifestyle of all the residences at the castle.
